Von der Leyen was Elector (Kurfürst) and Bishop of Trier from 1652-1676. During that time he built a winery in Bernkastel and these wines honor him. Von der Leyen Riesling is sourced in the Nahe Valley and is pure example of this famous wine making region. The wine is lithe and crisp with punchy fruit flavors and distinct minerality. The Gewürztraminer comes from the Pfalz and is a less spicy and more elegant expression of this grape.
“The nose is a bit quiet, but the palate of this off-dry Gewürztraminer is lusciously fruity, full of clingy peach, nectarine and citrus flavors. Bright acidity and a bristling lime-pith finish add depth and structure.” –89 Points, Wine Enthusiast (Best Buy)
